About erGenetics
Under the direction of Dr. Aurelia Meloni-Ehrig, an award-winning cytogeneticist, and Dr. Zunyan Dai (Dr. Day), dual-boarded in both cytogenetics and molecular genetics, erGenetics is a team with a combined over 55 years of experience in cytogenetics and molecular genetics in both research and clinical settings. It provides cytogenetics and molecular director coverage, consultation, and education and training for laboratory personnel. erGenetics provides a wide range of specialized consulting services for cytogenetic and molecular laboratories within academic institutions, hospitals, and commercial organizations.
Having held leadership positions in both academia and high-volume commercial laboratories, and contributed to the training of post-doctoral fellows and pathology residents throughout the country, Dr. Meloni-Ehrig and Dr. Zunyan Dai (Dr. Day) are uniquely qualified to professional cytogenetics consulting services, including:
- Case sign out and consulting including - cytogenetics, FISH, and microarray for cancer, prenatal, and postnatal cases, molecular non-sequencing assays, Sanger oncology.
- Computer-assisted case report sign out for overflow cases
- Report generation (provide diagnostic and prognostic significance of genetics aberrations useful for patient management, follow up, treatment of choice, etc.)
- Dr. Meloni-Ehrig also serves as a cytogenetic reviewer for the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB), has director approval by the Children's Oncology Group (COG), and is licensed in New York (cytogenetics and molecular oncology) and Florida (cytogenetics).

Founder, erGenetics
Dr. Aurelia Meloni-Ehrig is board certified in clinical cytogenetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) and a fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics (FACMG).
Prior to discovering her interest in and passion for cytogenetics, Dr. Meloni-Ehrig earned her doctor of science (DSc) with a specialization in marine biology from the University of Studies in Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy. Through a twist of fate, she began a two-year fellowship training program in cytogenetics in Sardinia in 1983. After that, she applied for and obtained a two-year research grant that brought her to the Genetic Center in Scottsdale, Arizona.
In 1986, Dr. Meloni-Ehrig began training in cancer cytogenetics at Southwest Biomedical Research Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona, under the leadership of Dr. Avery A. Sandberg, one of the pioneers in cancer cytogenetics.
During this time, Dr. Meloni-Ehrig obtained her doctor of philosophy (PhD) in microbiology at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. She completed her post-graduate fellowship training in clinical cytogenetics in the department of pediatrics at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she was also appointed assistant professor in the oncological sciences department at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
A two-time recipient of the Cancer Cytogeneticist of the Year Award by Quest Diagnostics’ prestigious Nichols Institute, Dr. Meloni-Ehrig has been awarded grants by the Veterans Administration, the National Cancer Institute, and Primary Children’s Medical Center Foundation.
The author or coauthor of over 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, Dr. Meloni-Ehrig serves as section editor of tumor genetics for the open access online journal Molecular Cytogenetics, which offers immediate access to anyone wishing to view their articles.
Dr. Meloni-Ehrig also serves as a cytogenetic reviewer for the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB), has director approval by the Children's Oncology Group (COG), and is licensed in New York (cytogenetics and molecular oncology), California, and Florida (cytogenetics).
Dr. Meloni-Ehrig is certified as a Laboratory Director by CLIA (ID number 11D2129437).
